SAFETY - Our Number One Concern
|
Rules of the Road....
|
Follow all traffic laws
All lanes of traffic must stop for a school bus when the
red lights are flashing-including residential streets, devided highways and school property. You may NOT pass a school bus when red lights are on unless waved on by a school bus driver or police officer. The bus driver uses "hand" signals to let children know its safe to cross the road. Do not confuse these signals as an okay to pass the bus. |
Danger Zones....
|
Please take a few moments to go over these rules and
teach your child the "Danger Zones.
Front of the Bus - Only when a child is ten foot in front
of the bus is that child out of the danger zone. Under no circumstance should a child go back to get anything he or she has dropped.
Side of the bus - If a student can touch the bus as
he/she walks along side of it, he/she is too close to the bus.
Rear of the bus - NEVER cross or go behind the bus.
Here students are totally out of the driver's view and the view of oncoming traffic. |
Help protect your children by teaching them our bus Safety Rules. The more often they hear them, the
more likely they are to remember. With your cooperation, we can maintain our excellent safety record.
Before crossing the road, students should always look at the bus driver, wait for the signal to go, check both
directions for oncoming traffic, then cross 10 feet in front of the bus.
In Emergencies, students should exit the bus from the front door, back/side emergency door or emergency
windows.
Students should know where the fire extinguisher, two-way radio, first aid kit and emergency exits are on the bus.
If they don't, ask the bus driver.
Students should remain in their seats at all times and keep both hands and feet inside the bus and out of the aisle.
Students should move in when someone needs a seat, keep hands to themselves, not use profanity or obscene
language, and respect others and their property.
Students should not throw objects or snowballs at the bus or bring snow into the bus.
Students should wait quietly and stand back from the corner or roadside while waiting for their bus.
Students should let substitute drivers know where their stop is and wether or not they need to cross the road.
